Matthew 5: 45 – “…for he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”
Love is not just something we feel or do or give to others but it is being or becoming LOVE. Like the sun, you cannot tell the sun to stop burning nor to stop giving light. It shines and has no preferences of whatsoever or whomever. It does not care where the light falls upon, nor if there are clouds that hide the light. It does not shine any brighter because it’s rainy season or lesser because there is a hole in our ozone layer and our temperature is increasingly getting hotter. It is what it is and does what it does.
This season of Lent is not only a tradition we do every year but a journey of growth and way of becoming. We unite ourselves with the Lord; thus we become like Him. We unite ourselves with the poor and needy; in their sufferings and pain; thus we become their intercessor and proxy.
Today’s readings calls us to a higher level of maturity and excellence. Jesus said, “But I say to you, love your enemies.” and “So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” As we draw closer to the Passion of Christ, the Lord is equipping us and molding us. He is giving us a chance to lay aside all our mediocrities and throw away all the things that hinders our growth. So that we would endure and persevere on the coming days ahead. We become. I become.
